I was so thrilled when one of my dear friends from high school hired me to take her daughter's portraits. Commemorating transitions and life’s amazing journey is what sacred portrait sessions are all about! I am in awe of this young woman as she steps across the threshold into her next phase of life and learning! I immediately fell in love with her amazing spirit, and I walked away feeling so inspired and uplifted. I am sure college is going to set her on a path where she lights up the world with her determination and innovation!!!
From time to time I love to go back and look at the portrait sessions I have done. This last year was mainly consumed by my sailing adventure, but I did manage to get a bunch of wonderful sessions in as well. I love my clients so much. It is great to see how they are all making their mark on the world! Here you'll see a writer/meditation teacher, a director/cameraman, a grad school student, a couple of actors, a professional musician, a hair stylist, a couple of realtors, a spiritual teacher, a craftsman and a jewelry designer/entrepreneur. It feels so great to be a part of these entrepreneurs' paths as they put themselves out into the world!
I have known miss Bella since she was born. I have shot both of her other siblings senior portraits (check them out here: Peter, Olivia), so this is a huge tradition and honor that I was looking so forward to! Bella is a living example everything you would want your child to embody....grace, strength, intelligence, wisdom, respectfulness, confidence and beauty (to name a few)! I am so proud to be one of her aunties, and am so excited to see what she does in the world as she steps into this next phase of life!
Pearl is going to be a famous actor one day... mark my words! She has been telling her mom for years (and mind you she is only 11!!!) that this is what she is meant to do. I believe her, and if you met her in person you would too! It was fun to do a second set of head shots for her while I was on the Big Island last week. She is heading to LA soon, and I am sure we will be hearing about her! I also got the pleasure of shooting some portraits for her lovely sister. I always have the best time with this family! We shot all over Waimea town and ended up at an old warehouse which I fell in love with on this last trip.
Olivia is one of those kids that has seemed beyond her years since the day she was born. When you meet her you wonder how old she really is, and then when you find out, you wonder how a senior in high school can have such a self possession and grace that escapes most adults I know. She inspires those around her with her wisdom, peaceful confidence and unique adventurous spirit. I feel so honored to have known here since she was born (her Mom has been one of my bestfriends since we were 13). This sacred portrait session is to honor her transition from high school to college. It was one of a few I did in Phoenix this week. It seems that whenever I visit Phoenix these days that the rains decide to come. Given that I was only there for a few days, this posed an interesting challenge for me. I HAD to shoot no matter what, so we made it work. We went in search of cool window light and overhangs. Olivia's mom was my trusty assistant following me around with a giant umbrella. I definitely put the weather proofing on my camera gear to the test. At the end of the day, we were all loving our adventure, and the shots that we got made it all worthwhile! I wish I could say here are a FEW, but, I just couldn't stop at a few.
I have known this amazing young woman since she was born. Her Mama and I have been best friends since we were 12. My love runs deep for this one, and I am so honored to be able to capture some portraits for her as she embarks upon her new life as a college student. It has been a fun few days hanging out in my old stomping grounds with old wonderful friends. This shoot is one of three sacred portrait sessions I am doing here, and has been the icing on the cake of an already amazing couple of days. Taylor picked the first location herself, and I was so grateful because it was a very cool spot. Its called Agritopia, and is an "urban farm" in Gilbert. It used to be a family farm and is now an amazing community resource. I picked our 2nd location, which was on the side of a road and in a run off gutter nearby filled with cool rocks-typical!! Yes, I am always luring my clients into these strange places full of color and texture! That's why my sessions are always an adventure!
I was so excited to have the opportunity to fly to St Louis and take my cousin's senior portraits. We had the best time together shooting and wandering. I feel so blessed not only to do what I love, but to get to take portraits of people that I adore and have known their whole lives....like this lovely one !
I had a great trip to Virginia to photograph this lovely young lady (who happens to be my cool step sister) for her modeling agency comp card. She needed a variety of looks including head shots and full length shots. I love doing portrait photography sessions like this, because we got to try out a bunch of different looks. We also had to shoot mid-day, so it was a fun challenge for me to find just the right light in our outdoor locations!
I had so much fun with this young lady. She was so easy to work with and had the best attitude ever! Ifell in love with the rest of her family too, so the whole day was great! We shot some portraits of her for a sign in book for her upcoming Bat Mitzvah celebration.
This lovely girl just stole my heart. She is just so full of enthusiasm and grace. She had the most adorable outfits and the best attitude to go along with it all! I had such a great time with she and her mom. I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to meet them and to shoot these fun senior portraits. I have chosen a few of my favorites, but man was that hard!
Haley is one of my favorite models! She volunteered to model for some demo shots I needed to do for my Senior Portrait Class at Spot Studio. It was a joy, as always to work with her!
Akasha was so much fun to work with. As you can see she has her own style and wears it well. She wanted and urban vibe for her senior portraits, so we wandered around Deep Ellum for a couple of hours finding cool backgrounds and textures to shoot against. She is a lovely young woman and I look forward to shooting her parents' wedding next June!
